The Israeli Academy for Film and Television

 

The Israeli Academy for Film and Television, established in 1990, celebrates the extraordinary wealth and diversity of Israeli cinema and the abundant talent and cinematic abilities of Israeli filmmakers throughout the industry.

 

The Academy aims to boost awareness, promote, advance and distribute Israeli cinema in Israel and abroad.

 

The Academy conducts a national spread of marketing activities to promote the exciting, diverse and expansive Israeli cinema throughout the country for over 30 years.

 

 Since 2003, the Academy has also begun celebrating Israeli television in all its genres, shining the spotlight on the outstanding television industry talents and achievements.

 

The competitions and ceremonies are the highlight of the Academy's annual activities. Through them, the Academy opens the door to the accomplishments of original Israeli cinema and television, to further boost the connection between the public and the original oeuvres of the local film and television makers. The ceremonies are the summation and celebration of the industry as a whole, and participation in the competitions awards the film and television talents with professional acknowledgement, and wide media exposure.

 

Central Academy Activities in the Field of Cinema

  1. The Ophir Competition for the promotion of Cinema, taking place for the 34th time in 2024.
  2. "Moving Image" – screenings of Israeli films together with a meeting with one of the filmmakers in the social and geographical peripheral areas of the country to promote new audiences and reach every potential audience in the country. In collaboration with Mifal Hapais.
  3. The academy promotes Israeli cinema with no limitation on freedom of expression with artistic and thematic independence while representing the multi- culturalism of Israeli cinema in all its variety and originality.
  4. Production of an annual film catalogue for the promotion of Israeli cinema for international markets.
  5. "Pathways of Israeli Cinema" – a platform for the promotion of cinema that deals with or was shot in locations throughout the country, as part of the local culture.

 

Central Academy Activities in the Field of Television

  1. The Competition for the promotion of television, in which television dramas and series, comedies , miniseries, documentary films and series, talk shows and reality shows, children's shows and entertainment shows compete.
  2. In addition, the Academy hosts a gala celebration in honor of the talented professionals behind the scenes of the television industry, where prizes are awarded in all television professions.
  3. Production of an annual catalogue for the promotion of Israeli television for international markets.
